Βρίσκοντας τον άνθρωπο (Finding a Human), ink on paper, 35 cm x 50 cm, Sold

The idea for the work came from one of the hosts of the podcast, Medlir Mema, who wanted to reflect on a famous episode in the ancient Greek Cynic philosopher Diogenes’ life.  In his Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers, Diogenes Laërtius recounts an episode where Diogenes the Cynic walked through a crowd of people in broad daylight with a lit lantern held in front of him. When asked what he was doing, he simply stated that he was searching for the human.

As we enter the age of AI we are asking ourselves many questions about what life in the age of AI will look like and what effects its influence will have on humanity. In my piece, one sees Diogenes searching among a crowd of androids looking for signs of humanity. This hopefully evokes many questions that may be answered by listening to the podcast or it may take you on a joyful ride down the rabbit hole.
